Belfast, the capital of Nothern Ireland

Belfast is not only the capital of Northern Ireland, but is also its largest city by a long way. More than a third of the province’s population lives within Belfast, and consequently due to this, there is a fast-paced bustle about the place that you will find almost nowhere else on the island.

It was transformed by the Industrial Revolution, and since it closely resembles Liverpool and Glasgow. With it, the Industrial Revolution brought about grandiose architecture and magnificent Victorian pubs. Famously known, Belfast’s docks are the home to where the Titanic was built. The city of Belfast is characterized by its numerous Victorian buildings, and also Donegall Square, which is packed full of stores and shops. During the week nights, Belfast has a ghost-like feel, with hardly anyone on its streets, however there is no doubt that Belfast still continues to thrive culturally, with its great music, theatres and visual arts; the traditional Irish culture is being rediscovered. The city boasts a massive arts festival, artworks on the waterfront and the new Odyssey Complex.
