Winnipeg

Winnipeg’s beautiful scenery is one that has been unscathed by its community. The Red River passes through Winnipeg; known as the Red River Corridor it stretches a great 60 km from its city to Lake Winnipeg.

Once a tiny supply route, it is now home to the region’s most absorbing tourist attractions; ones to note are two elegant 19th Century houses and the refurbished Lower Fort Garry.

Take a driver through the area of southwest Winnipeg towards the North Dakota border, and you will be taken to the finest and most typical prairie scenery, and through quaint towns such as Altona and Winkler. Going west from Winkler is the town of Morden; this sites the annual Corn and Apple Festival held in August. And going farther west you will hit the town of Darlingford, where a large granite boulder marks the route taken by the 18th Century French explorer Sieur de la Verendrye, where he went in search on the western sea.
A site not to be missed in Winnipeg is the Pembina River Valley, which is home to the most spectacular sweeping views of the prairies. Also, to go back to the routes of the town, visit Kaleida, which has a charming pioneer stone church and cemetery.
