Montreal - a city of great atmosphere

The atmosphere of Montreal is where its charm lies, rather than the attractions that it has to offer. It has made its name by being Quebec’s economical and cultural centre, with its varied social culture, but is also the second largest French-speaking city, after Paris. There are numerous events and places to see that make this the most vibrant place in Montreal. From a whole calendar full of festivals, to restaurants, bars and clubs, this is the place to see a truly multidimensional city.

It’s a great city for it keeps both its past and also its present in mind; from the 19th Century churches hidden away by the shadows of the modern skyscrapers you’re sure to see why this place has such a great character. Although the city during the day has the typical hustle and bustle of America, it still manages to retain its French speaking routes and heritage.

It’s a great site to see when a town recognizes its civic pride and prosperity; everywhere you look you are greeted by signs in Vieux-Montreal, on the banks of the St Lawrence River, the Basilique de Notre-Dame to the sleek and stately commercial buildings. It’s great to see the conversions to the city that have taken place, from old houses being converted into restaurants and shops, to abandoned warehouses converted into condos. The city is also known for its excellent museums, from the Centre Canadian d’Architecture where it has one of the country’s most spectacular specialist collections, the Musee d’Art Contemporain as Canada’s only museum devoted to contemporary art, and the Musee des Beaux Arts as the oldest on fine-arts museum in the country. Also to visit just outside of Montreal is Outaouais, which is a large forested region great for outdoor activities. Or you can go and see the Cantons-de-l’Est, which lies in acres of farmland, orchards, maple woods and lakes. Also to see is the Mauricie valley, Canada’s smallest national park, which has a range of waterways, lakes and a landscape of mountainous forests.
